UV-Filled Clouds

As you head into the winter months, you may be tempted to stop using sun block. The fact is, although the days are shorter and the sun is less intense, there is still a risk of damage from UV radiation. UV damage not only causes wrinkles, it can also cause some forms of skin cancer. This is why, even in winter, every woman should include sun block in her beauty and skin care routine.

UV Moisturizers
Olay, Neutrogena and other manufacturers make light, oil-free UV moisturizers for use alone or under your makeup. These products are available in most drug stores and shield the skin with SPF 15 sunscreen. Some of these moisturizers also contain vitamins and antioxidants, which nourish the skin and reduce wrinkles.

UV Tints
UV tints are face creams with light tinting that can be used in addition to, or in place of foundation. Like the moisturizers, these tints are oil free and may contain vitamins for additional moisturizing.

UV Foundations
UV foundations come in a variety of tints, for all skin tones, and provide an extra measure of protection against UV damage. You can find them in liquid, cream or powder form. Some mineral foundations also contain UV protection. You can combine them with a UV moisturizer for an added measure of protection.

UV Lip Products
The lips are most vulnerable to UV radiation because they have the thinnest skin. Simple lip balms and lip sticks aren’t enough to protect against UV radiation. You can find UV lip tints and balms in the lip balm aisle or try a UV lip color from the cosmetics aisle. Many UV lipsticks also have moisturizers to reduce fine lines around the lips and additives to make them color-fast.
